Can't Afford a Lawyer offer affordable help from experienced legal professionals.

We give people the information that they need and help them to understand it.

You can save yourself hundreds of pounds in legal fees by researching and understanding the law. By doing so you can target the money you spend on lawyers, or take a view on whether you need a lawyer at all.

Our range of services can assist with anything from a nudge in the right direction to a comprehensive analysis of a particular area of law or procedure. Our legal answers are provided by barristers with access to law libraries and premium online databases. They can:

  • Furnish you with legal information relating to your issue.
  • Find an answer to a specific legal question.
  • Educate you on legal procedures, powers, rights and factors.
  • Introduce you to forms, case law or statute relating to the area of law that concerns you.
  • Show you how courts have dealt with previous problems and the respective arguments used.

Thousands of people a year represent themselves at court. From the Small Claims to the High Court too many are not doing themselves justice. The two main causes of this are nervousness and lack of legal knowledge.

When you go into court you must be clear about the purpose of the hearing, the options the judge has and what you want to achieve. You need to be prepared and to present your case effectively.

Can’t Afford a Lawyer can help by providing a pre-court clinic. It is an opportunity for you to:

  • Familiarise yourself with the court environment.
  • Learn about court etiquette and rules.
  • Get tips on advocacy and presenting your case.
  • Find help preparing for your day in court.

If you don't know where to start or need something explaining to you we can arrange for you to speak to a barrister. You can book an appointment at time to suit you (including weekends and evenings) or speak to someone within an hour (Monday to Friday 10am - 4pm).

After each conversation you will receive a follow-up email recapping what has been covered and setting out a plan of action. Our barristers can:

  • Listen and help you to focus on the issues, your goals and steps to achieve those goals.
  • Ensure that you get the most out of the services that exist to help those in your situation.
  • Offer practical information on how cases should be prepared and presented.
  • Guide you through legal and court procedures including forms and documentation.

Many of our services are free, but if you choose to pay for further assistance we accept all major cards.
